“This beautiful industry of Burlesque, the glitz, the glam, the showmanship and the Shimmy, we owe all of it to Black femmes who chose to express themselves by dancing their way through history, for us to watch, for us to copy and create careers for ourselves.

Sable, A Juneteenth Cabaret, produced by Harlem Nyte, honors our Burlesque History by honoring those who created it and paved the way for us, Black femmes and queer people. And we should be honoring this History year-round and that is the mission of the Ecdysiast Arts Museum: to create a space to let the core of our Burlesque History shine.”

says Danielle Colby, owner of Ecdysiast Arts Museum and local reality TV star from History’s American Pickers.
