Sponsor the grand opening of the Every(body) Wants to be a SHowgirl permanent installation at Ecdysiast arts museum

Every(body) Wants to Be a Showgirl is coming to the Quad Cities for a permanent Installation housed at Downtown Davenport’s Ecdysiast Arts Museum in September 2026! Become a sponsor of the exhibit's Grand Opening Sept. 11th & 12th.

What is Every(Body) Wants to be a Showgirl?

Every(body) Wants to Be a Showgirl is "The Largest Global Celebration of Black Burlesque Artists".
Curated by international burlesque icon Aquarius Moon, Every(body) Wants to Be a Showgirl (EWTBAS) is a traveling exhibition celebrating the artistry, cultural impact, and living legacy of Black burlesque performers. Featuring costumes, photos, and memorabilia from over 100 Black performers from around the world, the exhibition centers living artists while honoring the lineage of Black performance traditions.

Why is it important?

Black burlesque has long been a site of innovation, resistance, and economic impact, yet its contributions remain under-documented and underfunded. This exhibition is a corrective initiative—creating visibility, care, and historical context while supporting artists who are actively sustaining the art form.
The project is Black-led, community-informed, and ethically curated, prioritizing dignity, authorship, and legacy over extraction. This exhibit is 100% self funded and independently produced.

What is this exhibit about?

Every(body) Wants to Be a Showgirl is on the road to the Quad Cities for a special permanent installation honoring the late Toni Elling.
Toni Elling, the 'Satin Doll', was a showgirl in Detroit, Michigan who began dancing in the 1960s at the age of 32. She was a pillar in the community and paved the way for so many. We are so honored to have this special piece of Motor City showgirl history in our museum and we can't wait for you all to come see it!
